Shabbat Afternoon Youth Activity
The Jewish Center of Teaneck is very excited to announce a special updated version of our highly successful Youth Shabbat Afternoon Activity. With gratitude to the exceptional leadership of Sheila Resnick and Michele Cooper, we have had a youth seudah shlishit, parshah learning, and free play in the gym throughout this past winter. As the Shulchan Aruch writes (OC 301:2, see also Magen Avraham ad loc.), we are responsive and encouraging of the special Oneg Shabbat which our children derive from the ability to be active on Shabbat, even as we provide them with special enrichment opportunities for Torah learning on Shabbat afternoon.
Due to increased demand for the program, we are now introducing a new format for our program. Coach Luiz Vasquez, who runs after school sports for Kol Chaveirim Kids at Yeshivat He'Atid, will now supervise children's free play in the gym from 4:30-5:30 for children ages 5-Bar/Bat Mitzvah. The children will be divided and supervised in age appropriate groups.
We ask that parents of children age 7 and under to remain for the duration of the program to supervise their children, while those children ages 8-11 may continue to be dropped off, and picked up at the conclusion of the program at 6 PM. We ask our parents to partner with us in actively supervising these younger children, so that the environment remains appropriate for all children.
Following free play, we will meet for seudah shlishit/snack and Rabbi Daniel Fridman will lead parshah learning for the children until 6:00PM, when the children should be picked up.

Shabbat Perek In the Park
This Shabbat (4/29), the Jewish Center of Teaneck is very excited to launch a new shiur series, called Perek in the Park. In keeping with the beautiful minhag of studying Pirkei Avot on Shabbat afternoon during the summer months (Shulchan Aruch OC 292:2), we will be studying one chapter each week, in preparation for Shavuot. The shiur will focus on the foundational themes of this treasured text and will be accessible to all levels.
The shiur will run from 6:15 PM-7:05 PM and meet in the Martin Luther King park on Broad Street, down the block from the shul. Volunteers are kindly requested to meet in the shul at 6:05 to help carry folding chairs to the park. In the event of inclement weather, the shiur will be held in the Pressburger sanctuary. For any questions please email the office at
